Etive are holding a digital identity/Verify round table discussion at Rochdale Town Hall on the 8th November, facilitated by iNetwork.

Local authorities and housing associations are invited to this round table discussion to find out more about the Local Verify Beta Pilot project which is working to utilise digital identity, underpinned by Verify, to help hard to reach customers access Government and local authority services more efficiently.

There is keen interest amongst local authorities and the wider public sector in how GOV.UK Verify could be used to help them deliver services more effectively, more efficiently, at lower cost, and in ways that improve the lives of their customers.

Previous work has demonstrated that data collected by LAs and housing associations (HAs) as part of social housing transactions, for example, has real value in establishing a customer’s identity. This is particularly significant as certain LA and HA customers fall into the “hard to reach” category as far as GOV.UK Verify is concerned.  These are customers who may need to access Universal Credits, may come from the lower socio-economic bands; they may not have a bank account or a credit reference score; they may not have a passport or a driving licence. In other words, they may not have enough of an online footprint to successfully register for a GOV.UK Verify account enabling them to access Government and local services more efficiently. LA and HA data, then, could help to hook these people into the digital economy, which is shown to deliver benefits all round, and help government achieve its aim of offering users a single digital identity throughout their lifetime.

Speakers

Ian Litton, specialising in online identity, spent 30 years in local government working for Warwickshire County Council.  Ian led a number of GDS/OIX projects that demonstrated how GOV.UK Verify could underpin customer-permissioned eligibility checks against central government data, with particular reference to the Blue Badge service. This culminated in a private Beta project run in collaboration with the DWP.  Ian is the project manager for the Etive OIX Alpha project.

Annette King spent 36 years working for Birmingham City Council, during which time she led and developed a range of digital projects using different technologies, with a range of partners from across the public, private and voluntary sectors. She has delivered and implemented high profile pilot projects with Department of Work and Pensions, including their Universal Credit pilot project in 2013/14 using the Digital Log Book, and has presented at conferences on digital-by-default in the public sector and digital inclusion. Annette was responsible for Birmingham City Council’s implementation of the Etive Digital Log Book.
