It’s been suggested the UK’s global leadership in emerging identity ecosystems is being challenged by a gap between new EU regulations around the permissible use of data and an alternative so called “Wild West” ethos of Silicon Valley. Meeting that challenge requires collaboration between the UK’s public and private sectors when there is also an urgent need to maintain the global interoperability of the UK’s banking and identity management systems.

Impending global Open Banking initiatives require both the public and private sectors to understand the implications of regulations and standards in the UK on the global identity ecosystem.

The UK landscape for identity in public services is itself at an “inflection point” compounded by government and private sector deliberations around a trust framework for the reuse of government-developed identity services, a subject which arouses plenty of opinion.

Some argue that progression requires engagement with industry to use common approaches where possible and get a governance structure that is acceptable locally and globally. At the same time a conversation is necessary over the practice and ethics of identity in public services.

This event will offer a forum for informed discussion around the adoption of identity in public services.
