Ofcom launched a consultation on draft guidance for service providers publishing pornography on their online services. The guidance aims to assist providers in complying with their age assurance and other Part 5 duties under the Online Safety Act 2023.
This marks the start of the second phase of their work to implement the Online Safety regulatory regime over the next twelve months. The first phase, launched in November 2023, covers illegal harms draft guidance and codes of practice, which address issues such as child sexual abuse material, grooming, fraud and terrorist content. You can find more information about their regulatory approach and timelines via this link on their website.
The second phase of their work addresses the protections to children, including from access to pornography. OFCOM are consulting on age assurance for pornographic content, followed by a broader consultation on measures to protect children from encountering other harmful content in Spring 2024.
This consultation is an important opportunity for OFCOM to engage and listen to the feedback that their stakeholders have on their proposed approach.
You can find OFCOM’s consultation document and draft guidance documents here.
This is an open consultation process and OIX has been formally invited to give their collated feedback - this is the collated response that was submitted following workshops at which OIX members contributed their feedback.
